KATASUMI 片隅 is a visual scream exploring the most hidden margins of Japan. Inspired by movements such as Provoke, this photobook in raw black and white immerses us in ephemeral, everyday scenes where the tension between life and death, calm and chaos, is uncompromisingly revealed.
Taken between 2019 and 2024, primarily in Tokyo, the photographs capture the elusive and invisible within an infinite city. The camera fragments and deconstructs, unveiling stories charged with intimacy, solitude, and euphoria. These images do not seek answers, but more questions, forcing us to look at the uncomfortable and the ignored.
KATASUMI 片隅 pays homage to “non-places,” those liminal spaces that, though forgotten, vibrate with primitive energy. It is an invitation to get lost in chaos, find beauty in disorder, and feel the tension of a Japan that conceals itself only to be revealed.
